AIDOT announced on the 27th that it has supplied a real-time lesion-tracking and lesion-detection solution to the gastroscopy unit at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital and has begun a clinical trial involving patients. The solution was developed jointly with a team led by Professor Bang Chang-seok of the hospital’s Division of Gastroenterology.

The development was carried out through a project awarded by the Hallym University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. According to AIDOT, this is the first time in Korea that an AI-based real-time lesion-tracking solution in the field of gastroscopy has been introduced at a clinical site and used in a clinical trial.

Professor Bang said, “It is encouraging that the system can help prevent missed small lesions as much as possible. I am especially satisfied with the CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System) function, in which the AI provides real-time guidance down to fine details by indicating the location with sound alerts and detection boxes.”

He added, “The accuracy and real-time lesion-tracking results closely match physicians’ actual assessments,” and said, “Based on the results of this clinical trial, we plan to pursue domestic and international regulatory approvals and accelerate the expansion of Hallym Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital’s AI solution in earnest.”

Park Min-chan, head of AIDOT’s research institute, said, “The algorithm applied to the AI solution is the culmination of an AI algorithm that integrates 14 individual AI algorithms to enable real-time tracking, lesion interpretation, and recognition of invasion depth,” adding, “We are currently further advancing the algorithm based on the clinical test results at Hallym Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital.”

He continued, “The ability to interpret and track lesions in real time using 3D video—not 2D images—is a unique technological capability that only AIDOT possesses.”
