Advancing AI Diagnostic Support for Otitis Media

AI medical device software company AIDOT Co., Ltd. (AIDOT, CEO Jaehoon Jung) announced that its otitis media diagnostic support software, “ECHO dot AI,” based on middle-ear endoscopic images, has obtained approval for a digital medical device clinical trial plan from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).

With this approval as a milestone, AIDOT plans to advance a step-by-step clinical validation process to confirm the feasibility of use in real clinical settings.

The clinical study will be carried out in collaboration with university hospital clinicians with extensive clinical experience, focusing on verifying the usefulness of AI assistance in determining the presence of otitis media and its type.

ECHO dot AI is an AI-based diagnostic support solution that analyzes middle-ear endoscopic images to suggest suspected findings of otitis media, helping clinicians make faster and more consistent decisions.

It applies a four-class classification model—acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, chronic otitis media, and negative—as well as a binary classification model that assesses whether otitis media is positive, with an emphasis on providing reading/interpretation support information in clinical practice.

AIDOT explained that it is continuing to improve product completeness so that it can support clinicians’ decision-making even in situations like outpatient settings, where image interpretation must be performed within limited time.

An AIDOT representative said, “ECHO dot AI is diagnostic support software developed to increase clinical usability by applying AI technology to ear endoscopic images,” adding, “We will conduct clinical validation thoroughly and translate it into expanded on-site adoption and business results.”
